The Pomeranian Dukes' Castle in Szczecin is one of the main centres of cultural life in the Western Pomerania. Rebuilt after war destructions it became the seat of administrative and cultural institutions, among others the institution named The Pomeranian Dukes' Castle, whose aim is to support and popularise artistic activity in Szczecin and the province. The activity of the institution is financed by Marshall's Office of West Pomeranian District.
Musical and exhibitory activity of the Castle is worth noticing. Here take place chamber, classical and past music concerts, choral concerts such as The International Choral Festival, Sunday Noon Concerts, Chamber Music Evenings at the Candles, and in the summer season Promenade Concerts on the small and big courtyards. Among performers one can often find bands and soloists from all over the world (e.g. Goran Bregovič, Vadim Brodsky, Jose Careras, Jean-Marc Fessard, Barbara Hendricks, Konstanty Andrzej Kulka, Chuck Mangione, Valerij Oistrach, Pat Metheny, Al di Meola, Tomasz Stańko, Justyna Steczkowska, Michał Urbaniak).
The Castle of the Pomeranian Dukes' also organises or co-organises cultural events taking place in other regions of the Western Province, among others: Pomeranian Musical Summer, Organ and Chamber Music Festival in Kamień Pomorski, reviews of unprofessional artistic movements and other events.
The Vocalists and Instrumentalists Ensemble Camerata Nova functions at the Castle. There is also a theatre stage - Teatr "Piwnica przy Krypcie". The Castle Cinema also operates in the castle. Seminars and scholarly meetings take place, and promotional events are organized.
In the northern and southern wings of the Castle, there are artistic exhibition galleries, where each year about 30 exhibitions are presented. The exhibitions include photographic, historic and fine art exhibitions. Owing to contacts with Polish and foreign art galleries, museum archives, artistic environments the expositions presented at the Castle are often a good opportunity to see the works of the best creators and exceptional collections. Among many others exhibitions, the most popular ones were photographic expositions by Ryszard Horowitz, paintings by Leon Wyczółkowski and Jacek Malczewski, graphics by Günter Grass or Salvador Dali.
The Pomeranian Dukes' Castle also runs evidence of the history of the building and Western Pomerania. There are archaeological, preservation of work of art, cultural heritage and photographic workshops being held. There is also publishing activity.
